At Connect Community Charter School, many of our kindergarten through third grade students come from hardworking families who face significant financial challenges. For many, buying books for home is not an option — and the books they read at school may be the only ones they have regular access to.
We want every child to feel the joy of seeing themselves and their families in the pages of a book. Research shows that when children read stories featuring characters, languages, and traditions they recognize, it builds a sense of belonging, strengthens their connection to school, and encourages a lifelong love of reading. At the same time, stories can be windows into new perspectives, helping students grow in understanding of the world around them.
Our goal is to add at least 60 high-quality picture books — including bilingual English/Spanish titles — to our K–3 classrooms and library. These will reflect the rich cultures and everyday experiences of our students, while also introducing them to new people, places, and ideas.
Your gift will make a lasting impact. A donation of $40 provides two books that will be enjoyed by dozens of children each year. Together, we can give our students stories that feel like home — and stories that take them further than they ever imagined.
